SEDATION METHODS

Nitrous Oxide

Often called “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is used within the dental industry during specific oral procedures. It’s considered an incredibly safe and effective method of sedation and is delivered through a small mask that’s worn over the nose.

Nitrous oxide isn’t intended to make you pass out or fall asleep; rather it’s purely for relaxation and for calming the jitters that might come with a dental procedure. Some patients feel light-headed or slightly dizzy under nitrous oxide while others feel the effects in their body.

Despite it being a safe substance, there are contraindications for certain individuals. Those who have severe respiratory conditions or a history of stroke, hypotension, or cardiac events should not use nitrous oxide.

Before beginning any procedure our team of doctors will carefully review your medical history and discuss the use of nitrous oxide. Our ultimate goal is your comfort and safety.
